10 ways to get more out of your day


Easy tips that will help to keep you on top form throughout the day!

1. Make a to-do list

Want to make the most of your day? Of course you do! Write a to-do list. It’s simple, but ridiculously effective. ‘Most people are more efficient when they know what they’re doing, what’s expected and what the deadline is,’
says life coach Louise Presley-Turner 

2. Write down your goals

Writing down an intention for your day or week will ensure you get all the small stuff done and out of the way. ‘Don’t underestimate the power of a good goal. Without one you’re more likely to fritter away your day,’ says Louise. ‘Set a goal for the week and break your actions down into a daily list.’

3. Shop online

Doing your food shop on the internet is one of the best ways to save yourself time – and, potentially, money. Setting up a regular list online that you simply add any essentials to, week by week, means you avoid trawling around the supermarket and waiting in line, when you could be doing something more productive. So give the shopping trolley the heave-ho this month!

4. Maximise your commute 

Of course, you could fiddle around with Facebook or sing along to the radio on your commute. Or you could do something infinitely more productive! If you get a train or bus, it’s the perfect time to catch up on emails or lay the groundwork for a new project. Drive? It’s a great opportunity to learn something new – bring on the audio tapes! 

5. Work out before work

Squeezing in a workout before you hit the office leaves evenings and lunchtimes free. Plus, getting a sweat on first thing will wake you up and focus your mind. You’ll be ready to hit the ground running as your colleagues snooze! 

6. Rustle up a feast

Got a slow Sunday? Make a big batch of your fave healthy dish so you can freeze a few portions to eat during the week. That way you can have a healthy meal every evening in the time it takes to defrost a serving. 

7. Ring the alarm

Set that alarm clock earlier. There are a load of benefits to being a morning person. A University of North Texas study found college students who identified themselves as ‘morning people’ got better grades. Plus, people who get up early tend to get more done, according
to Harvard biologist Christoph Randler.

8. Ditch the distractions 

Ban yourself from social media temporarily so you can focus on what really needs to get done. ‘I think we’d be very surprised at the hours we squander on social media each day! Set a timer for 15 minutes and when it pings, get back to your own life,’ says Louise. 

9. Share the load

Don’t be afraid to ask others to do their fair share. If you’re doing the lion’s share of the housework, childcare or admin at work, have a word and try to work out a fairer split. ‘Any successful person will tell you that they delegate tasks they don’t enjoy and immerse themselves in doing what they’re good at,’ says Louise. 

10. Multitask at lunch

A working lunch is a great way to make the most of your day. Got a meeting you could do over sushi or a coffee? Go for it. A bit of food can be great fuel for a brainstorming session!
